Julia Webster Ayuso

I’m a Spanish-British journalist based in Paris, and my work has appeared in Monocle, Time magazine, The Guardian, The New York Times, The Daily Beast and Atmos among others.

After growing up in Barcelona, I studied French and Italian at the University of Bristol, followed by a master’s degree in journalism at City University of London.

I speak five languages (English, Spanish, Catalan, French and Italian) and I’m often travelling around France and Spain.

I’m particularly interested in stories about culture, language, identity and the climate crisis – and the relationship between the above. I’ve written about the translators working in a secret bunker, the Louvre’s efforts to save its art from flooding, and how walking helps us think.

In addition to reporting and writing features, I work with brands on writing and editorial projects.

I also co-write the newsletter Beyond Words, a monthly digest of language news from around the world.
